The Internet Wins Again! Arrest Made In SDCC Cosplayer Attack

By  |

We’ve spoken out time and time again with how to make your time spent at the con a safe and enjoyable one. Everything from consent, to harassment, and just little things you may or may not think twice about to be honest. However, it was heartbreaking to hear that a member of our community was harassed, beaten, and left distressed and alone this past weekend at San Diego Comic Con.

We won’t be posting pictures or a name of the victim due to the fact that she is a minor, and we want to respect her privacy. However, the Cosplay Community has been very proactive in getting this case solved almost instantaneously for the San Diego Police Department.

Posts were made on Facebook the night on regarding the incident from close friends and family members:

“One of my dearest friends was found on the side of the road, unconscious and bloody. She was wearing this cosplay on the day it happened. She was last seen with friends when she ran off after a disagreement. Please, please, please, if you have ANY information or saw her anywhere, contact her mother. The full information is down below. This isn’t okay and it’s sickening to know that this happened at a place people truly can enjoy themselves. Please spread the word.

”I just received a call from the San Diego Police Department and my daughter (redacted) aka (redacted) was found on the side of the road covered in blood with no ID unconscious. They are unsure what happened to her. My husband is on his way to the police station and then the hospital. If you have any information on what happened to her please send me a facebook message or call me at (redacted). Thank you in advance”. -(redacted)

Within less than 24 hours San Diego Police Department had an issuing statement leading up to the arrest of a 29 year old male on Sunday morning.

SDCC Arrest

This wouldn’t be the first time the internet has helped bring a victim to justice. Anonymous has often helped police close hard to crack cases and find people in various videos from YouTube that were committing acts of animal cruelty.. or worse.

This just goes to show that when the power of the internet is used for good, great things can happen. It’s still unfortunate that situations like this will happen, whether you are a cosplayer or not. But it’s nice to see the internet use their power to bring a resolution
